External tooth lock washers (also called star washers) have teeth made to bite into the bearing surface, these washer along with locktite and combined with double nut method, (also known as jam nut method -uses two separate nuts on top of each other) to secure the propeller in place and prevent loosening. If care is taken must be taken during installation this is a great and secure method of holding the prop in place. However there are many steps involved in installation so it has been replaced with a simpler method in the newer version that is easier to use with less risk of installation error. Instructions are not included. The propeller on early model Wilderness Systems Helix and Perception Pilot pedal drives was fastened by these locking nuts. This is a set of the Replacement Pedal Drive Propeller nuts for Old Versions of the propeller with a LOCK NUT system. This propeller is still available from some suppliers The propeller is 14 inches long. Propellers on original drives may be grey or orange. New versions of the propeller use a pin system. This kit is not compatible with that propeller. The propellers do look similar except for the attachment points to the shaft.
