When fitting the handle please use a secure anchor point Connecting the handle into threads into the deck, use of internal nuts and washers, or a “cherry” style expansion rivet are all sufficient. Self tapping screws probably aren’t (Unless into a solid internal feature- some composite kayaks and wave skis may have an epoxy resin insert specifically to allow a very coarse G316 Grade Stainless Screw (or you could put one in).
